Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus

posted by jvbanay2 in: Bible

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!”

Philippians 2:6 8

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

How easy is it to be harsh to others? Sadly, it is very easy. Think of when someone was mean or cruel to you. I still remember a bully who beat me up in school — and that was many years ago.

What is our response? In our flesh we want to be mean, and cruel and punish people. But Jesus Christ calls us to be merciful.

How can we do this? Let us remember Jesus Christ. Christ prayed for those who crucified Him, saying “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

So, let us be kind and merciful to others. Has someone wronged you? You are to forgive them, even as God in Christ Jesus has forgiven you. You can ask God and He will give you the power to do this.

You will fill me with joy in your presence

"You will fill me with joy in your presence."

Psalm 16:11

Our hearts are empty without God.  Our third reason to believe in God is this:  nothing can truly satisfy the human spirit apart from God.

The famed French scientist Pascal said, "There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ."

Many of us spend all our lives searching for fame, money, or the right job promotion which we believe will give us the happiness we've been seeking.  Yet even King Solomon in the Bible, who had more riches than any man at that time, realized that apart from God there is no true happiness.

The Bathing Suit Workout

posted by jvbanay2 in: Looks

Perhaps warmer weather is approaching, or maybe your planned vacation is coming up soon, but despite the promise of sunshine, you're filled with dread. It's bathing suit time! You picture yourself desperately searching through the stores to find a suit that will hide a multitude of sins. Well, there's good news.

You won't have to hide anything if you don't want to, and whether you choose to wear a conservative one-piece bathing suit or a daring bikini, you'll be proud of yourself and you'll never again have to dread donning a bathing suit. What's more, you'll be happy when you catch a glance of yourself when passing a mirror-in your underwear or even in the nude.

How long will this take? Here's the best part: You can achieve a bathing suit body in thirty workout hours-and you can opt to put those hours in as fast as possible. You can go on the 911 plan, where you zap your problem areas every day, or you can take the more relaxed road and work out every other day. You can do the regular plan, where you put in ten minutes a day, or the emergency plan, where you put in fifteen minutes a day. You can do it in record time because you'll be concentrating only on the problem areas, the spots that snug spandex do nothing to hide.

Become Children of God

posted by jvbanay2 in: Bible

"Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God..."

 John 1:12

You can be sure you are a Christian!  You are not a Christian just because you go to church, although that is a good thing.  You are not a Christian because you grew up in a Christian country.

You are a Christian if you have sincerely asked Jesus Christ into your heart as Savior and Lord, and believe that He died for your sins.  This is what makes you a Christian.

Facing The Storms That Come Your Way

posted by jvbanay2 in: Inspirational Stories
Little girl walked to and from school daily. The weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming as she made her daily trek to the elementary school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning.

The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child. Following the roar of thunder, lightning, like a flaming sword, would cut through the sky.  Full of concern, the mother quickly got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school.

As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly and with each flash the little girl
would look at the streak of light and smile.
When the mother's car drew up beside the child she lowered the window and called to her, "What are you doing? Why do you keep stopping?" The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty. God keeps taking my picture."  May God bless you today as you face the storms that come your way.

What are the Steps To Salvation

posted by jvbanay2 in: Inspirational Stories

“In [Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7).

Giving steps to salvation can be misleading because it implies that a person can work his way to heaven. As the above verse says, salvation is by His grace; we cannot earn it (Titus 3:5). Being dead in sin, an unbeliever doesn’t have the capacity to love God (Ephesians 2:1).

Thankfully, “while we were yet sinners” (Romans 5:8), God redeemed us. Redemption is paying the price to loose from bondage. By sacrificing His Son on the cross, God paid the price for sin (which is death), freeing believers from sin’s oppression. By resurrecting Christ from the grave, God proved the sacrifice was effective, giving the Lord Jesus authority to rule and intercede at His right hand (Romans 4:25; Mark 16:19).

Although we cannot merit heaven by taking steps to salvation, we are called to respond to Christ’s redemption with repentance and faith. Even that response is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Thus, the question is correctly worded, “What are God’s steps to salvation of sinners?” He did it all through Christ!

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified [declared righteous/not guilty] as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; . . . Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law” (Romans 3:23-24; 27-29).

The next question is, “What should be our response, by God’s grace, to Christ’s death and resurrection? Let’s review the following three responses. Discern whether you need to respond to God’s grace to be saved from sin and its sentence of hell.

Steps to Salvation (i.e. Response to Christ’s Redemption)

  1. Recognize need: Before receiving Jesus as Savior, you must understand why you need a Savior. Most people think if they live a law-abiding life, they deserve heaven. The problem is their definition of law-abiding. On Judgment Day after death, we won’t stand before a fallible, human judge. We will answer to a holy God, who rightly judges our thoughts, words, and actions.

God gives His law in the Bible, summarized by the Ten Commandments. Have you kept them? You might be thinking, “Well, I’ve never murdered anyone.” But Jesus revealed the true meaning of the law. He equated hatred with murder (Matthew 5:21-22; 1 John 3:15). Looking at someone with lust, Jesus taught, was adultery of the heart (Matthew 5:27-29).

Besides, all of us have broken the two greatest commands: loving God wholeheartedly and loving others as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40). By loving possessions more than God and loving ourselves more than others, we have all “sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Are you guilty? “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8). The penalty for sin that we all deserve is death, eternal separation from God in hell (Romans 6:23). Do you realize your need for a Savior from sin? That is God’s grace in convicting you!
  2. Repent of sin: In turning to the Savior, you must turn from sin. Repentance isn’t a “Sorry I got caught” reaction. It’s a heartfelt sorrow of how sin grieves God, and then turning away from it to Christ who gives the power to overcome sin. You cannot embrace both sin and Christ.

Although repentance leads to a change of behavior, it doesn’t mean we’ll never sin again. But we will have a different attitude toward it. Instead of craving the gratification of sin’s enticements, we’ll learn to detest it. God changes the lure of sin for the pure desire of delighting in Himself.

After convicting us of sin (first response), God’s grace gives us the repentant desire to change (second response). Turning from sin, we turn in faith to the only Savior from sin. This trust in Christ’s payment for and triumph over sin involves the third response to God’s grace.
  3. Receive Christ: For repentant sinners, God provides salvation from the penalty and power of sin through Jesus. Our response must be faith in who Christ is and what He has done. Jesus lived a perfect life for He was God in the flesh; Jesus died a redemptive death for He is the Savior from sin; Jesus resurrected as the Victor over sin and death for He is Lord over all.

By God’s grace, we repent of sin, trusting Christ as Savior from sin and following Him as Lord of life. We’re born again to new life by the Holy Spirit. Thus, He changes our desires to joy in glorifying the Lord.

In conclusion, a person cannot merit heaven through taking certain steps to salvation. Rather, God calls a sinner to respond to Christ’s redemption. Even the response of repentance and faith is His grace. Christians have nothing to be proud about; they boast only in the Lord!

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air [Satan], of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Ephesians 2:1-10).

Note that God saves Christians unto good works. All other religions require earning salvation by good works. Islam, for example, requires keeping the Five Pillars as steps to salvation.

In our pluralistic society, claiming one religion as truth seems arrogant. But God is not confined by men’s wishes and beliefs. As sovereign Judge, He could have let the law condemn us, resulting in eternal separation from Him in hell. But in love, God sent Christ to save His own from sin. Glory to God alone! How do you respond?

Fun List

posted by jvbanay2 in: Personal
I am one of those people who is notorious for forgetting that they have purchased this & that for a project, misplacing their current embroidery project, having several books in the middle of being read, and so on. Despite all of these little things to do, I am also someone who finds themselves "bored" at times. Recently I came up with a solution to my boredom, which I am calling the "Fun List." All the projects I would like to do or need to finish, all of the books I have at home needing to be read, and all of the upcoming free or low cost local activities are listed on this list so that I can refer to it when I find myself feeling bored. Using this list is wonderful as it forces me to use what I have, rather than contemplating or actually purchasing something new. This same "Fun List" would probably work wonderfully with children, too.

When We Feel Lonely

posted by jvbanay2 in: Bible

As believers, we have a Father who loves us. He desires the best for us. We're part of a large spiritual family with many brothers and sisters. But sometimes we still feel lonely. This can happen even when there's no major crisis in our lives.

Our greatest loneliness comes from a separation from the Father. This is a spiritual problem. The source is sin. We experience a break in our close fellowship with the Lord when we disobey Him and go our own way.

The remedy is confession. Confession leads to restored intimacy with God. If we refuse to admit our sin, the separation grows worse.

Busyness and preoccupation with earthly affairs also cause this isolation. Sometimes we push aside time with God to fulfill our obligations. We might focus so heavily on daily living that we ignore Him. To overcome loneliness, spend time reconnecting with God through His Word. Take in the knowledge of His deep, abiding love. Meditate on His great promises.

Being in harmony with God renews our purpose and energy for life causing that sense of isolation to lessen. Hope replaces discouragement. Our focus turns from "self" to others. It's important to reconnect with people. So, look for opportunities to encourage, serve, love, and support those around you. Intimacy with the Lord is both the antidote to loneliness and protection from it.

His love for those who fear Him

“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us."

Psalm 103:11, 12

Clean within!  When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the wonderful news is He forgives us all our sins!

What does it mean to be forgiven?  Picture a dirty sheet which is covered with dirt.  Then it is put in the wash and it comes out clean, white -- just like new.

Or picture your hands all covered with mud -- and you put them in a clear flowing stream of ice cold pure water.  When you take them out, they are clean and shining and the mud is gone.

The Bible says when God forgives our sins, He removes them totally from us.  "Though your sins were as scarlet, they will be as white as snow."

It is wonderful to be forgiven -- to be clean within.  May God bless you as you seek Christ and accept the forgiveness that only He can give.

Peace I Give You

“’(Jesus speaking) ‘Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.’”

John 14:27

God can give us peace in the midst of a storm.

How can this happen? What are the storms in your life — and mine? Is it sickness — or depression — or lack of money — or a family health crisis? No matter what the storm, if you are a Christian then Jesus can be “there in the boat” with you.

Just call on Him and He will answer you. Will every storm in life go away? It may not. Sometimes Christ will calm the storm.

“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don't you care if we drown?’ He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’ “

Other times Christ may not calm the storm, but He can give you the peace of God in the middle of the storm. “Christ is our peace.”

Pray Without Ceasing

posted by jvbanay2 in: Verses

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Mark 11:24

“Pray without ceasing.” How can we do this? If we think of prayers as just something we say sometimes, then we cannot pray without ceasing. But God is with us always when we have invited Jesus Christ into our lives. So we can talk to God anytime.

You can pray for others — that they can be healed, and changed, and brought to Jesus Christ. You can pray for nations, and presidents, and kings — and you can pray for the man in the street, and your grocer, and your best friend.

We may need to pray persistently — to continue to come before God. “Keep on asking, and you will receive; keep on seeking, and you will find; keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Don’t give up in praying! The God of the universe loves you as His child and He delights to answer your prayers.

Blinds for your Home

There are three major types of bamboo shades that I know of, and bamboo shades are called a variety of different names - woven woods, matchstick blinds, etc.  For my coming vacation leave, I have planned to do some home decorating.  My current plan is to buy new Blinds by S+N for my visiting area, rooms and dining.  I love to have a new thing in my house.  One of my friends introduces to me the different blinds. Sometimes a blind is too fragile to put edge banding around it, and you’ll want to be careful that you don’t buy a blind that sags.

When we saw our classmates last Friday, I told them that there was a site selling blinds their items are looks great. I told them that “just want you to know that I am so impressed with this transaction that I will definitely use again in the future and refer this site to all my family and friends! It was great doing business with this company.”  One of my friends, she is planning to buy a window cover in their house.
